DIANE LANE ENJOYED FIERCE MOTHERING

Diane Lane does not play the model mother to Anton Yelchin’s Finn in Fierce People. Her character drinks, takes drugs and sleeps with inappropriate men, not the qualities for a child to emulate.

In real life she is much more attentive to her daughter and step kids with hubby Josh Brolin so she loved taking on a role so completely opposite from her own style of parenting.

“Well I was very comfortable because she’s very far removed from me. Gosh it’s a cautionary tale and one that was actually quite liberating and fun to explore the pain of disappointment to your kid which is every parent’s nightmare to a certain degree so in that way it was creative and fun and juicy.”

Alpha Dog star Anton Yelchin couldn’t wait to get on set to play Diane Lane’s son, whose own mother was a great asset to their mother son relationship on screen.

“It would be wonderful just to be on set and learn but it’s great that we get this relationship to work on. I was just really overjoyed. He has a great relationship with his mother too so for me to hang out with your mom and realize that you’re cool and we can joke around and it’s OK. That helped a lot too because you need the good mother to be able to have the bad mother. You know what I’m saying?”
