Houston-based singer Tamar Davis is Prince’s latest protege. The R&B singer will release her debut album, Milk & Honey, on August 29th on Universal Records. The first single from the project is “Sunday In The Park.”

The singer explained what it’s like to be a protege of Prince. She said,

“You know what I never even was really up to date with the protege situation. I’m real cool with Sheila E. I met Applonia. I met Vanity 6. These women are beautiful, still look young. I don’t even understand why the media calls it protege and I told myself I would look it up. Even when I talked to Prince about it. You know I was like I’m concerned about it. He honestly said, ‘You will let people define who you are or you will know who you are?’ So literally I have defined myself as Tamar Davis, the girl who has learned under the maestro, Mr. Prince, himself. So I don’t even look at it as a negative thing.”
